「デュラン・デュランとゴドレイ＆クレーム」 一昨日、ＮＨＫでデュラン・デュランの１７年振り再結成日本ライブを放映していたので、見るとも無しに見ていました。もともと特別な思い入れのあるバンドじゃないですけど、８０年代といえばＭＴＶ全盛。小林某氏のしつこいしゃべりと共に毎週聞いていれば刷り込みは確実。ガールズオンフィルムは、あの＜ゴドレイ＆クレイム＞監督作品だったし！
ダーク＆ハード・サウンドしか求道しないようでいて、実はわたし、キッチュな音も大好きでして、デュラン・デュランのキャッチーなメロディも結構好きではあります。バブル入社組あたりの女の子（当然、今はいい歳の成熟した女性、、、ですね）と話する時にもにも定番ではあったし(^_^;)
まずサイモン・ル・ボン、はっきり言ってまるで別人。歳月人を待たず、月日は百代の過客にして云々。もともと、しろ豚バカボン系でしたが、全体に脂肪がまわって顔にしわが増えると、こうも変わるものか！ 後のメンバーは、なんとかテイラーばっかりで（ジョン・テイラー、アンディ・テイラー、ロジャー・テイラー）区別もつきませんが、ギターのアンディ・テイラーが、いい中年の味。ん？どこかでこの感じは見たぞ、デジャブ？と思いましたら、はるとまん氏のお兄さま、ロニー・ナガモリ氏の所属する中年ヘヴィメタバンド「MUTHAS PRIDE」のギグを見たことがあったからですね。ギターのアンディ・テイラーがほとんどロニーさんそっくりでした。中年ロック・ギタリストの標準仕様なんですかね。
音はテレビだとまあまあバランスもとれてるし、サイモンも声がまだ出る方でしたが、会場ではきっとスカスカの頼りないサウンドだったろうな。８０年代のモロダーとかのサウンドプロダクションを生でやると悲惨ですね。ロキシーミュージックも、アヴァロンやタクシーの生がつらかったです。
とはいえ、ロックというよりポップバンド、リーフレックス、ユニオンオブザスネイクなど次々ヒットメドレーは面白かった。バブル入社組の女の子達って、私らがＴレックスにしびれたのと同様の感覚で接してしたんだろうな。アンディ・テイラーが後にパワー・ステーションでＴレックスのコピーを演奏したのも、今にして納得。なお、バンド名が映画『バーバレラ』（68年。ロジェ・バディム監督のSF作品）に登場するセックス・マシーンの名前"DuranDuran（デュラン・デュラン）"から拝借されているのは、そこそこ有名な話（ＥＸＩＣＩＴＥのレビューより）。

ところで新作の噂のない（多分、ギズモ・ファンタジアのリミックスはあったかも）ゴドレイ＆クレーム組ですが、往時（８０年代）のビデオクリップですごくたくさん有るんですね。お色気系で好きな、デュラン・デュランやフランキーゴーズトゥーハリウッドの他、純粋にアーティストとして大好きなスティングの一連の作品とか、クラプトンの一番かっこいいビデオ、フォーエバーマンなんかもそうだった。好きではない映像ですが妙に心に残っているメカ系、ロボット系では、ハンコックのロックイット、ルー・リードのノーマニーダウンなんかもそうだったとは。以下、 The Music Video Databaseというサイトから拝借。
